Are we genealogists or family collectors?
We started with data from our closest family, ie in the same way that most of us have started. You are not genealogists but family collectors.
Other sources were different genealogy sites that turned out to be related to a person in our family tree.
Many people gathered together without particularly good control of the accuracy of the data.
Over time, there have been more and more details that we ourselves controlled or even found in different sources and some obvious stories / inaccuracies
have been removed. We have researched a little bit but the concept of genealogist may be to take in too much. We will never be real genealogists!
Although the quality of our material is constantly increasing, it is not fully controlled.
There are still things that can be checked against different sources but not yet controlled.
The oldest information in the material should always be considered uncertain!
These often come from different researchers' and cannot always be confirmed by church books or the like.
Perhaps the researcher in question has retrieved the fact via court records or other legal documents and has not provided any source.
Then, of course, these are considered "uncertain" data until a source has been specified and which can be checked.
We have chosen to retain such "uncertain" data if it has not been shown that they are obviously incorrect.
Our purpose
The purpose is to share with others what we have compiled.
If more people review what has been compiled, we can get help / comments about the correctness / inaccuracy of the information that exists.
In other words, the contents of the database only get better if there are more people who see and constructively question the data!
All comments / corrections are gratefully received by us!
GDPR replaces the Personal Data Act (PUL)
The large number of people in the database are dead and they have no abusive or inappropriate information registered.
For living persons, GDPR applies except when private individuals process personal data purely in private.
This applies, for example, to word processing at home and private e-mail.
However, an open publication of personal data on the internet, for example on a personal blog or the like, is never considered private because the
information becomes available for a indefinite number of people.
If a user is logged in with a password requirement, to access the information, thus limiting the dissemination of the information to known number of people,
it may be considered to be private.
The problem is knowing who the people are who is logging in to our site.
The solution is to have two groups of users, one open group and one closed group. The open group are those who register on the site and who can
then access people data besides the living ones because we do not know who this user is.
Anyone can register with virtually any information. The only fact that needs to be "real" is the email address because we use it to confirm the
person's membership through it. However, an email address is not a constant fact and easy to temporarily register one without requiring a genuine
user identification.
The closed group must pledge in writing not to disseminate information on living persons in a manner contrary to the GDPR or other laws
and regulations. Following this written promise, these users can see all the people who are entered in the database.
This may seem to be a cumbersome solution with written agreements, but it is unfortunately the only way to know who we are giving the opportunity to see
living persons data.
Special requirements
There are some technical requirements for you to use the site and these are:
Cookies
We use cookies to identify the computer that requests pages from the site. If you as a user do not allow cookies, this site will not
work for you. Learn more about cookies
here !
JavaScript
We use javascript for many functions and have no alternative to javascript. This means that if you do not allow javascript to run on your computer
this site will not work for you.
SSL
We use SSL to try to keep the secret in things like passwords and information about living people. If for some reason you cannot use https
this site will not work for you.
Touchscreen?
The site works with a touch screen but the "hover" texts that exist (those that appear if the mouse pointer is over a certain field ie
without clicking on the field / link) is not possible to see because the touch screen does not have this function!
pdf reader
Some documents have been stored as pdf files so a pdf reader for the browser is a must to see these.
Things that are good to have
Screen Resolution
The system has been developed on a screen with the resolution 1920x1200. Obviously, less resolution does not provide the same experience. In some cases,
and with good eyesight, it can help reduce the zoom of the browser to avoid scrolling too much. For example, we tested a screen with the resolution
1600x900 where we with 90% zoom got an excellent result.
